The 75th edition of the Septembre Musical festival has been postponed until 2021
The Board of Trustees of Septembre Musical Montreux-Vevey has decided to postpone the festival’s 75th edition until next year, with Austria remaining as the guest country. The festival will be held across a selection of the Swiss Riviera’s most iconic locations from 21 to 30 September 2021.
The Board of Trustees of Septembre Musical Montreux-Vevey has taken the decision to postpone the festival’s 75th edition, scheduled from 22 to 30 September 2020, until next year. “It is a serious and historic decision, but one that has been carefully considered with all parties involved,” declared the president, Laurent Maire. “The evolving Covid-19 global public health crisis is creating considerable uncertainty in every domain. Would we be able to offer our audiences a quality experience just a few days after the current ban on events of a certain scale is lifted? Furthermore, given its international status, organising a festival such as ours represents a logistical challenge and significant investment, and the risks thereof must be limited. The survival of our festival depends on it. But above all, our responsibility towards our audience, the artists and all of those involved in the organisation of the festival motivated us to take the sensible decision. Protecting their health is our top priority. We are also showing our solidarity with other leading cultural events in the region which have also been postponed for the same reasons.”
The first edition of Septembre Musical dates back to 1946. This year, the festival was preparing to celebrate its 75th edition, hand in hand with Austria, the cradle of classical music. “Following on from Russia in 2019, we were looking forward to welcoming the best Austrian orchestras, conductors and soloists,” explains Mischa Damev, the festival’s director. “Given the audience’s enthusiasm, we are pleased to announce that the programme scheduled to take place this autumn will now be held from 21 to 30 September 2021.”
The festival is offering three options to holders of tickets for the 2020 edition: transferring them to the 2021 edition, receiving a full refund, or converting them into a donation to offer some welcome support to the Septembre Musical festival. Further instructions can be found on the festival’s website.
The Septembre Musical Montreux-Vevey festival team is looking forward to getting everything ready to celebrate life and music in 2021!
